The Artistic Journey of Joseph Demaree
Joseph Demaree is an artist whose work spans across music, painting, and life itself. Born and raised in San Jose, CA, Joseph’s passion for creativity began early. Growing up surrounded by the rich sounds of music and the stories in nature, he found inspiration in the winds, the clouds, and the rhythm of life itself. His parents, both avid music lovers, supported his artistic interests, encouraging him to participate in music classes and street rap battles. Joseph’s journey as an artist began to unfold.
Joseph attended the San Francisco Academy of Art from 1997 to 2003, where his journey took flight. Over the years, he toured with various musical projects across the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. This period led to his creation of "The Unit Breed," a music and art show that ran from 1998 to 2009. His nomadic lifestyle continued with moves to Portland, OR, St. John USVI, and eventually, Hawaii. In Hawaii, he became an active member of the Lahaina Arts Society, showcasing his artwork and teaching kids art classes.
From 2014 onward, Joseph’s travels took him even further. In Europe, he toured through England, Scotland, and Greece, capturing landscapes through plein air oil paintings. His time in Portugal resulted in surreal
paintings and the creation of four albums, along with a comic book titled "Harvey Knoon #1."
Throughout his life, Joseph’s art and music have been intertwined, shaping his perspective and feeding his creative spirit. From creating murals for the Santa Clara County Fair to showing his art at The Parallax Art Fair in London, his work has been displayed across the globe. He’s also played in numerous musical groups, including Radderar, Captain Nowhere, and The Unit Breed, among many others.
Today, Joseph Demaree continues to create, paint, and perform, living his life as an active participant in the world of art. Whether through his surreal paintings, his music, or his reflections on life, he invites us all to join him in exploring the beauty and complexity of the present moment.
